Edward Donald Sumskis
1921-2003
Edward Sumskis died Jan. 9, 2003, in Southern Pines, N.C. He was 81.
Edward was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Kastantas and Mary Sumskis.
Edward was a World War II Army veteran. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, among other battles throughout France and Germany.
Following the war, Edward earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Case Western University.
He spent 32 years working various accounting positions at General Motors. Edward and Celestine, his wife of 56 years, retired to Southern Pines in 1987.
Edward was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Marie Sapp.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jeffrey Sumskis of Steamboat Springs; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Southern Pines. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, N.C.
