Former Steamboat Springs resident Arlene E. Truax died Feb. 4, 2003, in Banner, Wyo. She was 88.

Arlene was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Ottawa, Ill., to Arthur and Dora Snook. While still a child, Arlene and her family moved to Julesberg, where she met Lloyd Truax. Arlene and Lloyd married Jan. 4, 1933.

In 1940, the couple moved to Routt County, where they eventually purchased a ranch on Elk River Road. Arlene was actively involved in ranch operation, and she served as the camp cook and camp tender. She remained on the ranch for a number of years after her husband's death.

Arlene married Walt Siewert in 1976 in Custer, S.D.

She loved to travel, and her adventures took her to South America, Russia, Europe, Hawaii and the Far East. Arlene was proud to say she traveled to every state in the United States. She was a 4-H leader and a lifetime member of the Home Arts Club. Arlene also loved to paint, draw and crochet.

In 1986, she moved to Sheridan, Wyo., to be near her daughter.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her second husband; a son, Jerrald; a son-in-law, Richard Wilhelm; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Haight of Steamboat, Patsy Wilhelm of Steamboat and Lorene of Banner, Wyo.; a sister; a brother; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Anchor Way Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
