Adele Munson Hain

1924-2003

Former Steamboat Springs resident Adele Hain died suddenly Jan. 25, 2003, at Yampa Valley Medical Center. She was 78.

Adele was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Waterbury, Conn., to parents Walter and Jane Munson. She graduated Wilby High School in Waterbury in 1942. After high school, she earned a nursing degree from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1947, Adele joined the Navy and served as a flight nurse on air evacuation missions during the Korean War.

Following the war, she married Russel Hain in Honolulu, Hawaii. The couple moved often, living on Air Force bases throughout Russel's military service. In 1979, the couple moved to Fort Collins.

Adele and Russel moved to Steamboat last year to be closer to family.

Adele loved her military service to her country, and she enjoyed traveling to visit her children and her grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic sports fan and loved to drive her Gremlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jane.

Adele is survived by four daughters, Susan Ryan of Fort Collins, Cristie Lee of Fort Collins, Pamela Pierce of Steamboat and Joyce Winn of Austin, Texas; one brother, Charles Munson of North Haven, Conn.; and five grandchildren.
