Snocross comes to Hayden this week

Last year, sports promoter Henry Billet thrilled thousands of spectators in Steamboat Springs with a pair of snowcross snowmobile events built on high-speed thrills and spills.
During the next month, Billet plans to expand the sport of snowcross racing in Northwest Colorado. His Warrior Snocross and Freestyle will sponsor a series of events in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Craig. The Hayden races will be held Saturday.
"It has been four or five years since they had this kind of racing in Hayden," Billet said. "We really wanted to do a series of events in Northwest Colorado, and pulling Hayden and Craig into the mix is a pretty big deal."
Billet said the race series offers classes ranging from beginner to professional.
The event in Hayden will begin at 9 a.m. at the Routt County Fairgrounds. Billet said the finals and the open classes will begin at 6 p.m.
The event in Craig is tentatively set for Jan. 13.
Tickets will be sold at the gate and cost $10 for the full day and $8 for the night events.
"Our biggest stop is still Steamboat, but we are hoping that the events in Hayden and Craig will grow over the next few years," Billet said. "There are a lot of snowmobile riders in Northwest Colorado and these events have been very popular."
