WEDNESDAY
n Steamboat's Over the Hill Gang, which offers guided skiing to intermediate skiers 50 and older, meets at 9 a.m. Sunday through Friday across from the Billy Kidd statue.
n The Yampa Volunteer Fire Department's 25th annual pancake breakfast is from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Yampa Ladies Aide Hall. Cost is $5; children 5 and younger eat free.
n There will be a special service at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 185 N. Second St., in Hayden. Call 276-7265.
n The Gambler's Ball Roaring '20s New Year's Eve Party, sponsored by Perry-Mansfield and Emerald City Opera, is open to ages 21 and older and will begin at 8 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, 2200 Village Inn Court. Tickets are $50 per person, available at All That Jazz, Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, Epilogue Book Co., and the Sheraton or by calling 879-7125.
n Yampatika's Wee Naturalist program for children ages 3 to 5 meets from 9 to 11 a.m. at Yampatika, 925 Weiss Drive. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers. Price includes snack and juice. Call 871-9151.
n Yampa story-hour is at 10:30 a.m. at Yampa Public Library.
n Story-times for preschoolers ages 3 to 5 are at 10 and 11 a.m. at Bud Werner Memorial Library.
n Meditation for peace and illumination is at 7 p.m. at the Bear River Center. This is a free, guided meditation.
n The city of Steamboat Springs hosts adult open gym basketball from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Steamboat Springs High School gymnasium. Cost is $3.

n The second Town Challenge race of the season, the Double Z Cup giant slalom is at Howelsen Hill. Registration is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fireplace Room at Howelsen Hill Lodge. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Call 879-0695, ext. 104.
n Hahn's Peak Cafe hosts an acoustic jam/open mic night beginning at 7 p.m. Call 871-1495.
n A conversational Spanish-English exchange group meets at 8 p.m. at Epilogue Book Co. Call 879-book.
