The year in review
In a year dominated by news from Iraq, a war waged so many thousands of miles away was brought close to home as native sons were deployed to fight, a Hayden soldier lost his life and grown men left families and well-established careers to serve their country in a desert on the far side of the globe. But Iraq was far from the only issue making local headlines this year ...

Sound Off for Dec. 28, 2003
I couldn't believe the person whining about the Yule Log being found early again, which "took the fun out of it" for the writer. Excuse the pun, but "get a clue." Poor sportsmanship may be what's taking the fun out of it. The Farrell family seems to have embraced this Steamboat tradition; the tasteful thing would have been to congratulate them. Do you suggest that the museum sponsor a hunt where no one's allowed to find the treasure until you've read the final clues? Get with the spirit of the season instead of decking the halls with boos and hoos. Get out there and participate or "Yule" regret it.

Holidays can be a good time to buy
This is the best time to buy real estate, because no one else is, Steamboat Springs real estate agents say. Statistically, annual third-quarter sales have been tried and true as the time when most real estate transactions take place. After that, sales tend to drop, in part because of winter holidays, and in part because many people like to wait until the snow has melted, said Doug Labor, president-elect of the Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors and broker with Buyer's Resource Real Estate.
Looking Back: The year in Business
Air service was a recurring theme in Yampa Valley's business culture throughout 2003, as it has been for more than a decade. It was a year that began with a bit of a hangover, as so many do, from the ongoing story of United Airlines' efforts to reorganize under the protection of bankruptcy.
