Housing Authority seeks representatives for board
Routt County and the city of Steamboat Springs are seeking representatives to serve on the Yampa Valley Housing Authority.
The board of directors will involve between seven and 15 members who represent a diverse mix of interests, demographics and technical expertise. The members will serve staggered three-year terms.
Four people have applied, so county commissioners are encouraging anyone who is interested to send a letter of interest to the city or the county. The goal is to have the board in place by Jan. 1.

'It's a Girl Thing' book
discussion to continue
This spring, Bud Werner Memorial Library will continue its popular book discussion series for girls and women called "It's a Girl Thing." The free program is open to girls ages 10 to 13 and a woman of significance in their lives, such as a mom, grandmother, friend or teacher. Pairs may sign up for one or two discussions. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6, March 5 and April 2. The library will give each pair a copy of the discussion book to keep. Registration is required and starts Jan. 5. Riders in the Sky perform Saturday at Sheraton
The famous singing cowboys, Riders in the Sky, will perform two holiday concerts Saturday at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort's Grand Ballroom, presented by Strings in the Mountains.
This is the first time the group will perform its holiday show in Steamboat, which features its well-known classics such as "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds" and "Cool, Cool Water" plus beloved holiday tunes such as "White Christmas, " and its original song "Let It Snow/ The Last Christmas Medley You Will Ever Need to Hear."
A children's concert will be at 3:30 p.m.; tickets are $1 for ages 18 and younger and $15 for adults.
Tickets are $40 for an evening Holiday Gala, which includes a reception with hors d'oeuvres and champagne at 6:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the new Strings offices in Festival Park across from the Meadows parking lot, at All That Jazz or by calling Strings in the Mountains 879-5056, ext. 100 or ext. 103.
Steamboat Winter Sports Club needs volunteers
The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club needs volunteers for FIS races scheduled for Dec. 30 and 31. Volunteers earn a lift ticket. Call 871-6210.
Realtors collect donations for Routt County soldiers
Two Steamboat Springs Realtors, Molly Hibbard and Marci Valicenti, are collecting monetary and tangible donations to support soldiers from Routt County and their families. Monetary donations can be made payable to The Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Write "Support the Troops Fund" on the memo line.
Donations can be mailed to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, P.O. Box 774965, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477.
Tangible donations can be dropped off at Steamboat Real Estate, 635 Yampa Ave., or Prudential Steamboat Realty, 1875 Central Park Dr.
Suggested donations include: magazines, baby wipes, pre-paid phone cards, cookies or Gatorade mix. No alcohol or liquids.

Energy assistance program accepting applications
The Routt County Department of Human Services Low-income Energy Assistance Program will accept applications through April 30. LEAP helps low-income households meet winter home heating costs; it does not pay the entire cost of home heating.
