County offices will close

at noon today for holidays

Routt County offices will close at noon today to give employees extra time for the Christmas holidays and will remain closed through Christmas Day. The court system will remain open all day today.

Christmas dinner needs volunteer entertainers

Volunteer performers, musicians and entertainers are needed for the annual community Christmas dinner sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors. The dinner will be held from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Song, dance, vocal groups, poetry groups are wanted; accompaniment available. Several services to be closed for the holidays

LIFT-UP Community Thrift Store, Donation Center, South Routt Food Bank and Hayden Emergency Assistance Office will be closed for the holidays from today through Jan. 1. The Steamboat food bank will be closed during the same period, except for Firday and Tuesday, when it will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. All LIFT-UP sites will be open on their usual schedule beginning Jan. 2. Arts Council announces competition for wine fest

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council announces an open competition to determine the artwork to be used in marketing the inaugural Steamboat Wine Festival, which will be held Aug. 6-8.

The competition is open to new and original artwork in all media.

Artists are asked to create an original piece of art depicting a popular Steamboat Springs attraction, icon or landmark. The art must be a minimum of 8 by 10 inches and a maximum of 16 by 20 inches. The deadline for art submissions is Jan. 5.

A $500 grand prize will be awarded to the winning artist. Call 879-9008, ext. 101.

Food for Fines Programs helps children, families

During December, children with overdue fines at Bud Werner Memorial Library can "pay" their fines while helping families in need by participating in the library's Food for Fines Program. For every item of nonperishable food children bring into the library, the library will cancel about $1 of their overdue fines. All food will be donated to LIFT-UP Food Bank. The program is open to ages 18 and younger only.

Registration has begun

for Kaleidoscope program

Children can register for the Holiday Break Kaleidoscope Art Exploration for Kids art workshop. The workshop is for children ages 6-12 and is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, at the Depot Art Center. Students will work with fiber arts, including batik, weaving and paper-making. The cost is $100 for Steamboat Springs Arts Council members and $125 for nonmembers. Call the Arts Council at 879-9008.
