McInnis nominates Steamboat students
Congressman Scott McInnis, R-Grand Junction, recently nominated five Steamboat Springs students for appointment to U.S. service academies.
Lisl Pearson was nominated for the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy; David Hidalgo was nominated for the Air Force Academy; Cameron Shinabarker was nominated for the Air Force Academy; Shelley Dunlop was nominated for the Air Force Academy and the Military Academy at West Point; and Michael Herbert was nominated for West Point and the Naval Academy.
"To all those who applied and received a nomination, let me congratulate you on your selection," McInnis said in a press release. "Your hard work and commitment to academic and athletic excellence, leadership qualities and civic achievement earned each of you a place on this list."
as Best Yearling Cadet
Simon Kassemi, the son of Rebecca and Mical Huyser of Steamboat Springs and Dr. Si Kassemi of Rio Rancho, N.M., was recognized by the New Mexico Military Institute as the Best Yearling Cadet, Bravo Troop. Simon finished his sophomore year as the Most Distinguished Cadet and continues to earn a place on the superintendent's list each semester. Simon also became a cadet chaplain this year and recently was promoted to squadron leader. He hopes to attend the Air Force Academy.
