More than $6,500 worth of merchandise reportedly was stolen from a mountain area sporting goods store Thursday.
Five snowboards, coats, gloves and other items were taken from Terry Sports between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The burglary happened almost a month after a $500 Burton snowboard was taken from the same store in the 1800 block of Ski Time Square.
Steamboat Springs police officer Dale Coyner said the two burglaries were similar. The store was entered in the same way in both cases, by prying open a pair of double doors.
Coyner said inventory is being taken on what is missing but that the goods known to be taken were worth more than $6,500 in retail. Coyner said the items were taken from the snowboard section of the store, which also has general retail and rental sections.
The five snowboards were the most expensive items taken, but several Boulder Gear jackets, worth $220 apiece, also were taken. Other items taken included snowboard accessories, goggles, backpacks and gloves.
Coyner said the burglar knew the valuable items and took only top-of-the-line, name-brand goods.
The crime is classified as a second-degree burglary -- a felony. Coyner said criminal mischief charges also could be filed from damage done to the doors and items in the store.
The burglary was discovered this morning when the manager opened the store.
The double doors were being repaired after the last burglary, Coyner said, and the store was waiting to finish installing the locks.
