Police holding community meeting at 6:30 tonight

The Steamboat Springs Police Department is holding a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in the Citizen's Meeting Room in Centennial Hall.

The open house will allow residents to ask questions about everything from drunken-driving and drug enforcement to the status of police cases. City Director of Public Safety J.D. Hays, Assistant Police Chief Art Fiebing, patrol sergeants and detectives will attend the meeting.

The meeting will be informal, and residents can talk to the police one on one.

Bowl a game at Snow Bowl and help booster clubs

A fund-raiser for the booster clubs in Steamboat, South Routt and Hayden schools is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Snow Bowl. For every game bowled during that time, the bowling alley will donate $1 to the school of the patron's choice. Call 879-9840.

Financial aid workshop is Monday at high school

An annual financial aid workshop will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Steamboat Springs High School. All aspects of financial aid will be discussed, including planning for college, loans, grants and scholarships. The workshop is open to students and parents and is appropriate for any family of high-school-age children who want to gain an understanding of how to finance a college education. Call 871-3641.

Drama club presents

'A Christmas Carol'

The South Routt Community Drama Club presents the Farndale Avenue Housing Estates Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's production of "A Christmas Carol," at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Soroco Middle School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and children younger than 12. Call 736-1153.

Ride in the Santa Claus parade at 11 a.m. Dec. 13

The Fellowship of Christian Cowboys is planning a Santa Claus parade at 11 a.m. Dec. 13, beginning at 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Everyone is welcome to ride in the parade. An organizational meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Soda Creek Mercantile. Call Bill at 879-3146.

Chamber is accepting

event funding applications

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is accepting applications for summer 2004 special event funding. The application deadline is Dec. 19. Call Leslie Dietz at 879-0882, ext. 203 for an application.

Cheesecakes for the Arts available by special order

Cheesecakes for the Arts, baked fresh by Nancy Kramer and packed in gift tins, ready for shipping to your friends and family, are available by special order and also from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Christmas in the Rockies holiday market at Strawberry Park Elementary. The cheesecakes are available in several flavors, including chocolate almond, orange chocolate, chocolate mint fudge and plain. Proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Call 879-9008.

County accepting LEAP applications through April

The Routt County Department of Human Services Low-income Energy Assistance Program will accept applications through April. LEAP helps low-income households meet winter home heating costs; it does not pay the entire cost of home heating. The maximum monthly income for a one-person household is $1,384; for four people it is $2,837. For more on LEAP eligibility requirements or other information, call 879-1540.
