Longtime South Routt County resident Loi Iva Kier passed away Aug. 24, 2003, at Horizon's Care Center in Eckert. She was 85.
Loi was born Nov. 9, 1917, in McCoy to Earl S. and Elsie L. Brooks. She spent her childhood in McCoy and graduated from high school there in 1935.
Loi married Charles J. Kier on Dec. 22, 1935, in McCoy. The couple resided in several Colorado towns before moving to Austin less than two years ago.
Loi was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Yampa and the Ladies Home Demonstration in Toponas. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ethel Strait; a brother, Howard "Bud" Brooks; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Loi is survived by Charles, her husband of more than 67 years; two daughters, Beverly Reuker and husband Donald of Cedaredge, and Joan Carnahan and husband James of Rifle; a son, Larry Kier and wife Charlotte of Delta; two sisters, Margaret Porter and husband Harold of Eckert, and Jean Matthews and husband Paul of Midland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service was held Aug. 29, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Delta.
