Fire 50 percent contained

Part of Mount Zirkel Wilderness to be reopened

With rain keeping the 3-week-old Sawtooth Fire at bay, the U.S. Forest Service announced Wed-nesday that it will reopen a portion of the Zirkel Wilderness closed because of fire danger.

Ski pass rate held through Sept. 15

The deadline for early season pass rates at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center is Sept. 15. The price of a season pass allowing unlimited cross country skiing on the groomed trails that wind through the Sheraton golf course is $165. The prices of all the various season passes remain at the same level as in 2002.
