The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. is giving locals first crack at ski-season jobs.
Ski Corp. will hold a Locals Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Bear River Bar and Grill for positions ranging from ski instructors to servers.
"This will give locals the first chance to get jobs on the mountain before we go on the road to search for employees," Ski Corp. Public Relations Director Mike Lane said.
During winter, Ski Corp. employs about 2,000 people, of which 70 percent to 75 percent are returning workers from summer or the previous ski season, Lane said.
Of those employees, many are found from job fairs held in other resort towns and national parks, including Glacier, Yellowstone and Denali.
The Locals Job Fair typically is held in November, but Lane said all the positions were filled last year before there was a need to have a job fair, so it was canceled.
Lane said Ski Corp. wanted to have the fair earlier this year to give locals the first crack.
Positions are open for lift operators, parking lot attendants, banquet cooks, child-care attendants, ski instructors, servers, bartenders, cafeteria attendants, hosts and hostesses, busers, food runners, front desk agents, guest relations agents, lead cashiers, retail clerks, rental technicians, cooks and vacation sales agents.
Some interviews will be held immediately following application submittals.
Those who are hired will receive a compensation package that includes a complimentary season pass, limited complimentary lift tickets for guests, discounts for mountain restaurants, limited complimentary ski and snowboard lessons, and discounts on food, beverage, rental and retail shops.
Certain positions require and offer training.
For those who cannot attend the 2003 Locals Job Fair, online applications are available through an employment link at www.steamboat.com.
