Steamboat Springs As if the rivalry between Steamboat Springs and Moffat County wasn't heated enough, a playoff bid is on the line this time around.
Rifle, Palisade and Moffat County all sit ahead of the Sailors in the league standings. Three teams are all the Western Slope is allowed to send to the playoffs, and Steamboat has one game to jockey itself into playoff position.
The other three teams have two.
"Friday's for all the marbles," Steamboat coach Mark Drake said.
With a 34-0 win over the Sailors on Friday night, Rifle is assured of one of those spots, leaving Palisade, Steamboat and Moffat County to fight for the other two.
The best-case scenario sees the Sailors closing out the league season with a win this Friday while handing the Bulldogs their second league loss with a game against Palisade still left on Moffat County's schedule.
Steamboat is currently 3-1 at Gardner Field, the site of Friday's game, with the lone loss coming at the hands of Palisade, 31-26, on Sept. 27.
The Bulldogs are 1-3 on the road, but Drake said he knows exactly what to do with those stats when it's a Sailors/Bulldogs game.
"Records get tossed out the window," he said.
Those interested in attending Friday's game between Steamboat and Moffat County can purchase tickets in advance at the high school office starting Wednesday.
The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Young children and seniors (over 60) will be admitted free.
