— A Christmas album of local musicians and bands, or musicians with ties to the Yampa Valley, is back on sale in local stores and proceeds go to the Salvation Army.

The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. produced the album, titles "Special Steamboat Christmas Gathering," last year.

"It's something that my staff really wanted to work on," Vice President of Marketing Andy Wirth said.

The album's creation came after local rancher Scott Flower, guitarist Brent Rowan and Wirth were having lunch together and were talking about something special they could do in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The idea of the album came up, and Rowan ran with it.

"I had this concept from years ago," Wirth said.

"There are so many talented musicians in the valley. It would be great to put them all on one album."

Backed by Ski Corp., Rowan, a well-known Nashville studio musician and part-time Steamboat Springs resident, was the driving force in getting the project organized.

He produced and engineered the album, which was released last year and sold fairly well, Wirth said.

There are a few left and they will be on sale in local stores through the holidays.

The bands and musicians who appear on the album include Smokehouse, Tanya Tucker, Alpine Posse, Brittany Lamb, Mark D. Sanders, Mary Martin Stockdale, Billy Dean, Sleeping Giant, Worried Men, Shenanigans and Brent Rowan.
