Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is still hoping to attract a few more volunteers for this weekend's World Cup B qualifier, which will be held at Howelsen Hill Saturday and Sunday.
"We still need markers for both days," Steamboat Springs Nordic Director Todd Wilson said. "We can't offer much, but if you volunteer we can promise you one of the best seats in the house."
This weekend's events are basically tryouts for the upcoming World Cup B events, which will be held in Steamboat Dec. 14 and 15.
A few of the jumpers will also be looking to earn spots in the Continental Cup events, which are for special jumpers.
Wilson said the most immediate need is for people to mark where the jumpers land alongside the jump landings.
The director said he would love to attract another 20 people before this Saturday's opening jumping event, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Volunteers can call Wilson at the Winter Sports Club at 879-0695, ext. 112, and leave his or her name, number and address.
While the club is still hoping for a few more volunteers this weekend, executive director Rick DeVos said everything, including the number of volunteers, looks good for the December World Cup B events.
DeVos said most of the volunteers from last year's World Cup stop have decided to return to help out with the World Cup B this year.
"We need less volunteers for this year's event since we don't have food service and a few other things," DeVos said. "We have had so many people who want to come back from last year that I wouldn't be surprised if we don't already have enough for this event."
Still, DeVos wants to encourage anyone with an interest to call the volunteer line and leave his or her name, number and address.
The Winter Sports Club is always looking for new volunteers for a variety of events during the winter, coordinator Chris Richards said.
"You never know what you will need until the last minute," DeVos said. "We don't want to turn anyone away at this point."
Volunteers who work the World Cup B (not the qualifier) will get lift tickets in exchange for hours worked on the hill.
Anyone interested in volunteering should leave a message on Richards' voice mail at 879-0882, ext 204.
