Need for additional hangar space identified

— The need for additional hangar space at Yampa Valley Regional Airport has been identified.

Now the airport is looking to meet the need.

"I don't think there's any question that by next summer there will be additional hangars at Yampa Valley Regional Airport," Airport Director Jim Parker said.

Parker presented plans for hangar development to the Routt County Board of Commissioners Monday.

YVRA intends to lease the hangars to commercial and private aircraft.

Interest in leasing hangers at the airport exists. About nine individuals have inquired about the possibility.

"We anticipate that it's going to attract some people," Parker said.

The final number of new hangars remains to be seen.

Three parcels of varying pieces of land are up for development. The number of hangars that could stand on each parcel is not set in stone.

One parcel is large enough for corporate-size hangars. A second parcel could house t-hangers. A third parcel could hold executive hangars.

That means the three parcels could tentatively provide space for 14 hangars.

"You could add to it," Parker said.

Demand will drive future additions, he said.

Parker said the airport was willing to look at multiple hangar proposals. He said the airport wouldn't place restrictions on what developers could propose.

The airport's advisory board and the Routt County commissioners must still review the plans.

The amount of money the airport stands to gain annually from the hangars depends on the number of hangars constructed.
