Man injured while skiing at Steamboat listed as fair

— Thirty-one-year-old Eric Heffley is in fair condition at Denver Health Medical Center after a skiing accident Friday morning at the ski area.

Heffley was skiing at the Steamboat Ski Area on opening day when he hit a set of cat tracks, lost control and hit a tree, Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. spokesman Mike Lane said Friday.

Denver Health reported Heffley sustained bruises to his face and temple, a broken jaw and a bruised right lung.

Heffley was wearing a helmet, which prevented more serious injuries.

The accident happened at the intersection of Sunset and Duster before 10 a.m. It was the first hour of opening day and marked the first injury of the ski season.
