— The Town Board of Oak Creek voted to hire Jim Photos as the new public works director.

Photos will begin Dec. 9. Chuck Wisecup, who has been the public works director since 1984, will stay with the department until Dec. 31 to train his replacement. Wisecup is taking a job as full-time fire chief of the Oak Creek Fire Protection District but has promised to be available for questions in Photos' first couple of months on the job.

Currently, Photos is employed by Fox Construction and makes the daily commute to Steamboat Springs or Yampa depending on the day.

"I figured the (public works) job was close and I won't have to drive as far," Photos said.

Photos' first goal as director is to set up a system of accountability for the department.

"I hope to be able to have an open line of communication with the Town Board and the community," he said.

"I think this will be a very good thing for the town of Oak Creek," Mayor Cargo Rodeman said. "He seemed to have the managerial skills we were looking for."

More importantly, she said, he is dedicated to the town of Oak Creek.

Photos is married to Elizabeth Photos, a former teacher at Soroco Elementary. The couple has a baby boy. Photos has lived his entire life in Oak Creek.

"I think he will stick with it," Rodeman said.

"I am committed to the town," Photos said. "This job is a good way to get involved with the town and it's a good opportunity for me."
