Somebody give Smokey an Oscar

'From Cow to Ski Town' a must for any local video collection

I couldn't track F.M. "Smokey" Vandergrift down Sunday night. But I'm going to take a chance and assume he was not rolling down the Boulevard of Dreams in a stretch limo. No need for Smokey to rent a tux. No need to prepare an acceptance speech. And I'm going to guess no starlet in a Dior gown and rented jewels hanging off his arm. No cocktails after the broadcast with Whoopi and Ron Howard. But Smokey should have been at the Oscars.

A storm that was supposed to include a 60-percent chance of snow in the Steamboat Springs area largely missed the Yampa Valley, and the spring-like conditions are expected to continue through the week.

Video aims to teach middle schoolers about harassment

Parents and teachers gathered last week at City Hall to watch the premiere of a video produced in a collaborative effort between Advocates Against Battering and Abuse and several local school students. The video, "Impact of Harassment on Youth," is part of Advocates' Youth Partnership Program.

Weather boosts spring sidewalk sale

Sunshine and willing buyers made the first sidewalk sale of the year a success over the weekend, merchants said. Local residents and visitors to the valley strolled the streets on Sunday, mulling over the deals offered on clothes, jewelry and a variety of other items that didn't sell through the winter and were marked down to be cleared out before summer.
