Fund-raiser for teen programs set for Saturday

— This Saturday, the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. is sponsoring "Turns for Teens," an event to help pay for teen programs at the Steamboat Mental Health Center. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and last until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bashor race course at the Steamboat Ski Area.

Participants will race down the Nastar course against the clock to determine the winners of each division. Win or lose, however, the entrants will all be eligible for prizes donated by more than 30 local businesses and organizations.

The entry fee is $10 per person and can be paid at the starting gate.

About 55 percent of the clients of the mental health center are families with children. Most of the families cannot pay for the services, according to the center.

Money from the event will help pay for R.I.S.K., Reaching an Identity through Self-Knowledge, a program that allows teens to experience the outdoors and strengthen their self-esteem at the same time.
