Man faces charges after BB gun incident

— A 57-year-old Steamboat Springs man faces numerous charges for allegedly shooting a BB gun at a sign and two men late Wednesday night.

Joseph Michael Lacko allegedly shot a BB gun at two men who were trying to push a truck that had gotten stuck in a snow bank outside of Lacko's residence at 35 Spruce St.

Lacko also allegedly shot at a parking sign near the residence. He faces a felony charge of illegal discharge of a firearm and misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, prohibited use of a weapon and criminal mischief.

Lacko was arrested at about 11:15 p.m. after police received a complaint that a BB gun was being fired from Lacko's home.

According to court records, a neighbor reported to police that Lacko and two other men were yelling obscenities as he and a friend tried to move the truck from the snow bank.

The neighbor told police he heard BBs hitting the truck and called police, records show.

An officer talked to Lacko and the two men that were with him. Lacko and his friends were intoxicated, records show.

Lacko denied shooting the BB gun at the truck but admitted he was shooting at the parking sign, records show.

Officers seized an air rifle, air pistol and a container of BBs from the home, records show. Lacko was booked into the Routt County Jail.
