Man faces charge for hitting man with beer bottle

Steamboat Springs A 23-year-old Steamboat Springs man faces a felony assault charge for allegedly striking a man with a beer bottle early Thursday morning.
Ryan Wayne Thompson faces charges of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct for the alleged incident that took place at about 2 a.m. outside a bar in the 1800 block of Ski Time Square Drive.
According to court records, the victim, 30-year-old Eric Scott, suffered cuts to his head. An ambulance did not respond to the scene.
Steamboat Springs police officers broke up the fight outside of Levelz, records show.
The fight was the result of an argument two groups of men got into inside the bar, records show.
Thompson and a group of his friends were arguing with another group of men inside the bar because a girl Thompson knows was getting bumped into during a concert, records show.
The two groups of men had to be separated inside the bar as it closed.
Sgt. Joel Rae was outside the bar monitoring the crowd when a man alerted him of the fight at the bottom of a staircase, records show.
Rae heard a bottle break and then saw Scott holding his head.
Rae broke up a fight between Thompson and a 22-year-old man. Rae arrested Thompson after eyewitnesses said the man hit Scott with the bottle, records show.
Thompson also suffered cuts to his left hand. He was booked into the Routt County Jail.
