Routt County Spotlight Matthew Stoddard

Name: Matthew C. Stoddard
Age: 35
Occupations: Reservations for living, theater for playing
Place of birth: Fort Lee, Va.

Q. When did you move to Routt County and what brought you here?
A. I moved here in October, 1978 with my parents. We lived in Cheyenne, and went to Denver the summer earlier. We went home the looong way. Well, three people in a two-seater, one a tired 11-year-old, spend the night at Thunderhead Lodge, visit Realtor in morning. Rest history.

Q. What are the best and least favorite things about living in Routt County?
A. The best is Seventh Street Playhouse. The worst is the "I Need a Tax for Everything" craziness.

Q. If you could invite any four people to dinner, who would they be and why?
A. Cary Grant, because he was suave and funny. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster to ask how they came up with the idea of Superman. And finally, James Crawford, to get the real story of Steamboat.

Q. Who is the most famous person you have ever met and how did you meet him/her?
A. I met Dick Cheney while in formation during my Army days. I got kicked out of the Presidio pool when President Ford needed to exercise before the 1976 debates in San Francisco. I worked security for a college concert. I guarded the dressing room door for TOTO and I handled some of Urkel's (Jaleel White) travel.

Q. If you had three wishes, what would they be?
A. First, Money. So I could do the things I love all the time. Second, good health, even if I still smoke. Third, to wonder what to get my wife for our 50th anniversary.

Q. If you could travel to any place where would you go and why?
A. To be the first person on Mars. What a great experience, even if I'm not an astronaut

Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. Bringing people to the valley!
