WILLIAM A. MAIJALA
1945-2002
William A. "Bill" Maijala, 57, of Yampa, died June 4, 2002, at his home.
Bill was born April 8, 1945, in Oak Creek, the son of Lorayne "Mickey" (Seelye) Maijala and the late Arthur Maijala.
Bill was a graduate of the South Routt High School, and he went to college at Western State in Gunnison, receiving his master's degree in history and political science in 1968. While at Western State, he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.
He was a schoolteacher in Elizabeth and Hayden, where he was a football and basketball coach, too.
Bill then moved back to Yampa and was the vice president of the Maijala family business, with his dad, brother John and his uncles. He retired from the company in 1995 and in the past seven years has enjoyed spending time with his mom and John in Yampa and Logandale, Nev., where he loved to play golf.
Fishing was a big part of Bill's life since he was a kid.
He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge of Craig.
Survivors include his mom, Mickey, and brothers, John of Yampa and A.J. (Candy) of Evergreen; a nephew, Scott of Steamboat Springs, and a niece, Devani Ann of New Canaan, Conn.
The funeral Mass was celebrated June 10, 2002, at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Oak Creek. Monsignor George Schroeder presided. The organist was Deanna Berry and soloist was Belinda Rossi. Interment was in the Yampa Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayne Buntin, Bob Logan, Jim Photos, Larry Renaud, Paul Rossi and Jim Schmitt. Peterson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
