Rotary Club, Horizons team up again for fund-raising dinner and auction

— One of the longest-running fund-raisers in Steamboat Springs is next week.

Horizons' 26th annual Dinner & Auction is Friday and features about 100 items for live and silent auction.

Included on the auction block is a weeklong trip on a 46-foot sailboat off the coast of Miami, a weeklong stay in Cape Cod and a week's stay at Sunset Beach on Oahu, Hawaii. Other items include goods and services from local businesses, including liquor, massages and baby sitting.

The fund-raiser is a joint benefit between the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club and Horizons. Rotary sponsors the dinner and Horizons does the auction.

Like most nonprofit human services agencies, Horizons depends on fund-raising to secure a portion of its budget, said Kay Borvansky, development coordinator for Horizons.

"This is our major fund-raiser of the year," she said.

The money goes to help locals with developmental problems live an active life.

The benefit started as a spaghetti dinner in town. Today, it's a nice meal at the top of the gondola. Most recently it's had the theme "Island in the Sky," and participants dress in island gear for the evening.

Tickets for the event are $16 for adults and $10 for kids who are 6 to 12 years old. Children 5 and younger can come free.

Tickets are available at the Horizons office at Oak and Fourth streets, Central Park Liquor or from any rotary member.

People can start loading onto the gondola at 5:45 p.m. June 14 to attend the event.
