Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs Athletics Director Bruce Crowhurst had hoped to conclude the search for a high school hockey coach prior to the end of the scholastic year on Thursday, but a formal decision isn't expected for at least another week.
Tuesday, Crowhurst met with a group of five kids responsible for selecting two representatives to serve as the youth voice in the search process. Crowhurst said those two kids selected will have input in the decision and would be free to communicate with those close to hockey for some advice.
The deadline to apply for the high school position has passed, and Crowhurst said he received four applications for the newly-created job. He added that three applications came from local prospects, while one was filled out by an out-of-towner looking to move to Steamboat.
The inability for all the interested parties scheduled to mesh is the reason for the delay of the hiring. Crowhurst said all four interested candidates will interview on June 12, and the selection committee will sit down to discuss the prospects upon the conclusion of the interviews. A decision should come shortly thereafter.
