— Coleman Holloway is representing Steamboat Springs in the five-day All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.

Holloway, 9, is one of 131 boys and girls competing in the event's Super Stock division, which features race cars built from ready-to-assemble kits.

With four days of festivities behind him, Holloway races today at Derby Downs with more than $50,000 in college scholarship money on the line for the three divisional winners in the 65th All-American Soap Box Derby.

Holloway earned the trip to Akron after winning Steamboat's second-ever Soap Box Derby race earlier this year.

In addition to Holloway's division, 140 contestants will compete in the novice Stock Car division and 50 champions will take part in the Masters division for young builders with advanced construction skills.

An additional 93 rally finalists, who have earned points in rallies held nationwide since last fall, will compete for national rally titles as well.

Derby contestants range in age from 9, like Holloway, up to 16.

Through a recently announced partnership with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, the Soap Box Derby has become a part of NASCAR's Youth Program Initiative.
