Artists can join Western Slope clay club

The Western Slope Clay Artists will hold their first meeting at 1 p.m. Feb. 9. Any potter or sculptor working in clay who would like to sell their work can sign up for membership. The goals of the organization are to network among other clay artists, find mutual support, purchase materials as a group and coordinate exhibits. Ski for DeSo day is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday

Ski for DeSo day is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to celebrate the memory of Justin DeSorrento. Stop by the DeSo tent at the base of the gondola Tuesday for a chance to win free skis. A drawing is held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bear River Bar & Grill featuring Kip Attaway. Winners must be present to win. Admission is $10 and open to the public 21 and older only. All proceeds from Ski for DeSo will be donated to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

Museum hosts book release celebration

The Tread of Pioneers Museum hosts a book release celebration for "Shining Mountains" from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the museum. "Shining Mountains," by Lulita Crawford Pritchett, was published in 1939 but is being printed again because of popular demand.

Paintings and drawings from the book by Susie Jackson will be exhibited and the Crawford family will be present to celebrate. The book chronicles the pioneer life of Steamboat Springs' founding family, the Crawfords. Refreshments will be served and the book is available for sale.

Painting school offering artists scholarships

The Mixed Media Painting School of Steamboat Springs is offering Yampa Valley artists two $500 fellowship awards for continuing education in mixed media. The application deadline is Feb. 15 and the winners are announced April 1. Jurors include Nancy Kramer, Bernie Rose and Patricia Branstead. Fellowships are awarded based on the requested field of study, the artistic quality of the work demonstrated. Call 879-9008 for more information and for applications.

Winter Works on display until Feb. 24

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council and Wells Fargo Bank present Winter Works 2002 with the theme "Wordplay" until Feb. 24 at the Depot Art Center. The multimedia fine art exhibit provides word activities for those who visit the gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Farndale Ave. Ladies present play Feb. 7-16

The Farndale Avenue Ladies present "They Came From Mars and Landed Outside the Farndale Avenue Church Hall in Time for the Towns Women's Guild's Coffee Morning" at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays Feb. 7-16 at The Farndale Avenue Church Hall, corner of 7th and Aspen streets. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the play directed by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr. Tickets are $10 in advance and for seniors at All That Jazz and the Depot Art Center, $12 at the door. Local museum exhibits work of Curtis

Tread of Pioneers presents "The Life and Work of Edward S. Curtis" photography exhibit through June 2002. Curtis was an early 20th century sepia photographer that reproduced images of Native Americans and their lifestyle. Photo Express House sponsors the event.
