Volunteer sought for DOW position
DENVER The Colorado Division of Wildlife is recruiting a volunteer from the Western Slope to serve on the Wildlife Management Public Education Advisory Council (WMPEAC).
Candidates are required by statute to have purchased big game hunting licenses on a regular basis and will represent Western Slope hunters.
Candidates must be nominated by a sportsmen's organization or club with a regional or statewide membership.
WMPEAC is charged with developing a media-based information program to educate citizens about the benefits of wildlife management and wildlife-related recreation, specifically hunting and fishing.
The Division of Wildlife director appoints WMPEAC members. Clubs and organizations are encouraged to nominate candidates by sending a letter of nomination and their candidates resume to: Director, Colorado Division of Wildlife, 6060 Broadway, Denver, 80216. Nominations are due by March 1.
More information is available from the Division's public affairs office at (303) 291-7287.
$2.6 million going to wildlife projects
DENVER The Colorado Wildlife Commission voted unanimously last week to allocate $2.6 million from the Species Conservation Trust Fund to help pay for a list of Division of Wildlife projects.
Around $1,613,000 will go to projects aimed at the recovery of endangered fish in the Colorado and San Juan rivers.
The second request of $1 million will fund projects involving six key listed or declining species in the state, including the Preble's meadow jumping mouse, the mountain plover, the boreal toad, grouse and the Colorado River and greenback cutthroat trout.
After getting the go-ahead from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the list will then head to the executive director of the Department of Natural Resources, who will present the list to the General Assembly for final approval.
