Foundation created to aid medical center fund-raising

— A fund-raising foundation has been created to support health-care services at Yampa Valley Medical Center.

The Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley will raise money through donations and fund-raising events to help pay for medical equipment and other needs of Yampa Valley Medical Center programs.

Candyce Bonjiorno, fund-raising specialist for the foundation, said the medical center's budget doesn't always support requests for additional equipment or service in some programs.

"Our charge is to raise money to help (fund) the types of things that can't be supported," she said.

The foundation is coordinating all aspects of medical center fund-raising that were formerly handled by the medical center's development office.

The medical center's pain management program, for example, is expanding its services thanks to help from the foundation.

Also, proceeds from the Ski Town USA Golf Classic, which will be hosted by the foundation, will go to the Doak Walker Care Center.

Community members can support the foundation by pledging $500 per year for three years to join the Founders Circle.

The new foundation, which was officially launched Jan. 2, also has an account through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Bonjiorno said linking with the Community Foundation creates another avenue for people to donate to the organization.

A kickoff party to inform interested donators about the foundation will be held March 8.
