Steamboat Springs Steamboat's TIC Bantam A hockey team finished the season in first place in its league.
A pair of wins over Aspen last weekend secured the team's top place in the CDYHL league.
Although Aspen was the first to score in the opening game, the Bantams quickly responded with a goal from Chris Baumann, assisted by Nick Pruett. After Aspen's second goal, Steamboat once again answered back with a goal from Nick Crislip off another assist by Pruett.
The Bantams then took control of the game as Brad Bonner and Ryan Brees scored two goals to end the first period up 4-2.
That lead widen when Steamboat went on a scoring spree five minutes into the second period. It took just two minutes for Steamboat to net three goals as Bonner, Brees and Todd Mistr found the net. Dusty Atkinson assisted Brees goal.
Aspen scored one more time in the second period before Daniel Coloccia tacked one more point on for Steamboat. Both teams ended the game with one more goal in the third period as the game ended for Steamboat the same way it started - with a goal from Baumann.
The Bantam finished the game up 9-4.
Aspen provided a little more competition as Steamboat skated away with a 5-4 win.
Coming into the second period 2-1, Atkinson helped widen the gap as he assisted a Baumann goal and then went on two score of his own. Pruett and Bonner scored a goal each in the first period.
Today, the Bantams host Boulder for an exhibition game starting 7:45 p.m. at the Howelsen Ice Arena.
