OLYMPICS UPDATE: Alborn, Jones miss finals

— Steamboat's Alan Alborn and Clint Jones both missed making the finals Wednesday during ski jumping on the large hill in Park City.
The top 50 jumpers from Tuesday's K-120 qualifying advanced to today's rounds. The field was narrowed to 30 with a preliminary round this morning. Neither Alborn nor Jones made the cut.
Switzerland's Simon Ammann won the event, his second gold medal of the Olympics. Adam Malysz of Poland was second and Matti Hautamaeki of Finland won the bronze.
The result was most disappointing for the 22-year-old Alborn, who many thought had an outside shot at a medal. Alborn had finished 11th in the K90 special jumping on Sunday.
The Olympics was supposed to be a learning experience for the 17-year-old Jones, the youngest male competitor at the Olympics.
The U.S. Ski Jumping Team, which also inlcudes Brendan Doran and Tommy Schwall, gets its final medal chance in the team competition Monday.
