COMMUNITY SLIGHTEDI'd like to sound off about the fact that Steamboat Springs will send more Olympians than any other city in North America, and yet the Olympic torch will not be coming through Steamboat Springs. I think that's a slight against our community and I don't see why Vail gets to have the Olympic torch and Steamboat doesn't.

TUBING BAN SHOULD BE CONTINUEDI think the tubing ban should be continued for many reasons. I think that when tubers inundate the river, it has a very negative impact on the river. I don't think they should be banned entirely, but they definitely should be confined to a specific area on the river. When the tubers use the entire river, it's hard for there to be other uses on the river.

DOWNTOWN STOPLIGHTSMy comments address the downtown traffic stoplights. I thought a few years ago that we paid extra money to the highway department to coordinate those traffic lights so that traffic would flow smoothly through downtown; however, it seems I get stopped at three or four lights just going through downtown. What happened to the coordination of these lights? Was it money ill spent or do the lights just need an adjustment?

THE LAYS AND ENRONWhat in the world is Kenneth Lay's wife talking about on TV? She's saying how they are broke and just about bankrupt and then I read they have four homes in Aspen. I don't know why they let her go on television and try to get people to feel sorry for her. They should sell everything the Lays have and give it to the Enron employees who lost everything.

OLYMPIC SEND-OFFWe all know how the cattle drive caused such a problem with traffic and I don't understand why the Olympic Send-off wasn't held at Olympian Hall. It seems a much more logical place to have it.
Downtown turns
I am just wondering why we can't have turn lights downtown. It seems like if you have to turn left only one car can get through before the light changes. That's my gripe.

NEW OWNERS SPARK HOPEWell the ski area is finally going to get new owners. It's about time. Let's hope the Muellers can do better than Les Otten and American Skiing have done.
