Margery Markle was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Pagoda to William Edwin and Lulu Mae (Bennett) Arnett.

She was raised and attended elementary school in Pagoda and Hayden and attended high school in Craig. Margery married Forrest L. Markle Sept. 12, 1949, in Hayden.

She and her husband owned and operated the Broken Drum Cafe in Hayden for many years where Marge worked as a cook. Marge had lived in Hayden most of her life with the exception of short periods in California and Nevada.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, crocheting and being with people. Her grandkids were a major part of her life in recent years and she never missed a sporting event that either her children or grandchildren were involved in.

She was a Broncos and Rockies fan and attended both the Hayden Congregational Church and Mission of Grace Baptist Church in Hayden. Marge resided in Fruita for the past two years and died there Jan. 21, 2002, following a lengthy illness.

She is survived by three daughters, Anita Gilpin and husband Clarence of Kingman, Ariz., Bonnie Green and husband Mickey of Craig and Barbara Brazelton and husband Jim of Hayden; two sons, Mike Markle and girlfriend Lindsay of Hayden and Milburn Markle and wife Carolyn of Craig; a sister-in-law, Mary Lois Arnett of Ashmont, Alberta; a brother, William A. Arnett and wife Laura of Ashmont, Alberta; 12 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest Markle; a brother, Wilbur E. Arnett; and a cousin, Durene Scott, who was raised with her.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Jan. 26, 2002, at Hayden Congregational Church. Kenneth Forshee officiated. Interment was at the Hayden Cemetery.

A memorial in Margery's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or LEAP program in care of Grant Mortuary.
