Steamboat Springs Cody Sherrill set the pace during the first day of the Steamboat Springs City Junior Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Sheraton Golf Course.
Sherrill fired a round of 83 in the 16-18 division to take a one-stroke advantage over Quinn Coale, who recorded an 84 for the 18-hole course. Sherrill and Coale are currently 1-2 in the overall standings for the tournament.
Paul Berry, who is playing in the younger 14-15 division, had the third best round of the day with an 85 and took a two-stroke lead over Tucker Smalley in his age division.
Other age division leaders include Tucker Campbell, who finished with a 46 for nine holes in the 11- to 13-year-old group. Tim Ascher followed Campbell with a score of 51 and currently stands in second place in his age group. Three golfers, however, are within striking distance at 52, including Dylan Roberts, Taylor Fletcher and Mick Dierdorff.
All of the older divisions will finish the tournament today at the Haymaker Golf Club.
The two younger divisions played nine holes Tuesday at the Steamboat Golf Club. Sam Harrelson shot a 45 to win the 6-8 division and Patrick Weston finished with a 52 to win the 9- and 10-year-old group.
