Realtors contest offers help for homebuyers
Monday, April 29, 2002
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors is sponsoring a contest that should draw interest from income-eligible first-time homebuyers in Steamboat Springs.
In conjunction with the Colorado Association of Realtors, the local board is participating in a drawing that gives six, first-time Colorado homebuyers $5,000 toward closing costs or a down payment on a home. "If someone is interested in buying a home this summer, I think this is something home buyers would like," said John Worden, past president of the Steamboat board.
In its second year, the statewide drawing known as the Colorado Home Giveaway is targeted for first time homebuyers who have household incomes that are 80 percent or less of the 2002 median family income for the county where the home is being purchased. That means homebuyers in Routt County would have to earn a household income of $44,800 or less.
The drawing is sponsored by the Colorado REALTORS' Housing Opportunity Foundation and runs through the month of May, which is Colorado Home Ownership Month.
Other entry requirements are that all contestants must be a Colorado resident, show a letter of approval from a lender and purchase a home through a member of the Colorado Association of Realtors. An entrant who wins has three months to purchase a house.
Worden said that interested applicants may pick up entry forms from Steamboat's Board of Realtors office. Forms also will run in the Steamboat Pilot & Today. The Colorado Realtors also have forms online at www.colorealtor.org. The entry deadline is May 31 and six winners will be picked on June 13.
