Planning Commission revisits CD Code

Steamboat Springs — As the weather warms, the city's Planning Commission will get the chance to do some spring cleaning.
In the six-month review of the Community Development Code, planners have started clarifying wording and tweaking policies in the ordinance that passed in September. It was a job they started a week ago and is expected to take a few more meetings.
Along with two development projects on the agenda, the Planning Commission will be discussing changes to the code tonight. Kathi Meyer, chairwoman of the planning board, said the commission plans to work through the smaller housekeeping items first and hold off on the more discussion-orientated policy decisions.
"If we can do the first part, then we can start discussing a lot longer items," Meyer said.
Larger policies issues that planners could discuss in upcoming meetings will be decisions on where health club uses fall in the code, if split townhomes share surrounding land and pinning down wording for vested development permits.
The planners have already passed amendments such as requiring public notices be posted for public hearings on pre-applications. Meyer said it made more sense to have residents voice their concerns in the early stages of the planning process rather than later in the final approval.
But unlike the old city code that waited 15 years before updates were made, Meyer said this code will see continuous revisions and could see another review in six months.
