Steamboat Springs Cody Sherrill led the Steamboat Springs golf team to a second-place finish at the Eagle Ranch Golf Club in Gypsum on Tuesday.
Sherrill finished the 18-hole golf course with a round of 78, just two strokes behind event winner Pat McLennan of Aspen.
McLennan's finish helped the Aspen Skiers win the tournament with 238 total strokes. Steamboat came in second with 248 behind golfers Sherrill, Eric Scholl (80) and Chris Johnston (90).
Quinn Coale was the final Steamboat golfer with a 91.
Eight teams took part in the event which is one of the final contests of the regular season. Battle Mountain came in third, Palisade and Eagle Valley tied for fourth.
The Sailors were scheduled to play in Eagle Valley again on Wednesday, but the terrorist attacks in New York forced the event to be canceled.
The Sailors' next major competition will come on Sept. 17 when the team opens the regional tournament at the Tiara Rado club in Palisade.
A top finish at that event will earn the golfers a shot at the state tournament, which will be held Oct. 1 and 2 at the Spring Valley golf club in Elizabeth.
