OAK CREEK STUDENT EARNS SCHOLARSHIP
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSTyler Knott of Oak Creek was one of five students awarded a college scholarship worth $5,000 from Case Credit, the financing unit supporting Case IH dealerships. Knott is attending Colorado State University, majoring in natural resources.
To be eligible for the scholarship, the student's family has to receive at least half of their income directly from farming or agriculture. Applicants must also have a minimum 3.5 grade point average.
'TEEN OF THE MONTH' NAMED
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSSoroco senior Brandon Gilleland was honored as the Steamboat Optimist Club's "Teen of the Month" for October. Gilleland is a three-sport varsity letterman in football, wrestling and track and is an All-Conference wrestler. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, serves on the Student Council, acts as a peer tutor and participates in the Grand Futures Youth Academy and the Yampa Valley Legacy Project. Outside of school, he is in a church youth group, is an Eagle Scout and a courtesy clerk at City Market. He plans to attend Adams State College in general studies.
Each month of the school year, the Optimist Club salutes a Routt County student for contributions to school and community.
STUDENT INDUCTED INTO HONOR SOCIETY
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSKatie Laurel Smith of Oak Creek was inducted into the Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society. Smith, a music performance major at Huntington College, was one of 18 students inducted into the society at the school on Oct. 5.
Membership into the Alpha Chi, a honor society for undergraduate juniors and seniors, is the highest academic honor at Huntington College and represents both a recognition of scholastic achievement and a commitment to promoting academic excellence on and off campus.
