STOCK FOR STEAMBOAT SKI AREA PARENT COMPANY TAKES A DIP

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSAmerican Skiing Co.'s stock dipped to

95 cents a share at the closing bell on Wall Street Friday, marking the first time in a month the stock had closed below $1.

The shares were relatively active Friday; volume was 36,000 shares.

American Skiing recently closed on the sale of the Sugarbush, Vt., ski area. Efforts to sell the Steamboat Ski Area, which ASC hopes to finalize before the end of the year, continue.

MOUNTAIN SPORTS CLUB BEGINS PREPARING ITS WINTER CALENDAR

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Mountain Sports Club is preparing its winter calendar and promoting the Mountain Sports Magazine, "Merchants Cup" Adventure Race Point Series.

The sports club will host six races beginning in January of typical outdoor adventure sports related to the seasons.

Teams consist of four people two men and two women.

The series kicks off with a Spaghetti Mixer Nov. 30 open to the public.

The mixer will provide people with competition guidelines, pre-event registration, membership and sponsors information.

UNITERD ALTERS SEATS TO HAYDEN, ELIMINATES TURBOPROPS FOR JETS

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe frequency of commuter airline seats bound for Hayden this winter took a small hit last week, but the local airport gained an all-jet fleet and 42 additional daily seats for its Denver service in the process.

"It's definitely mixed news," Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. Vice President of Marketing Andy Wirth said.

The changes on the Denver-Hayden route are just a small part of a major overhaul United is making to its schedule. The airline is shooting for a 23-percent reduction in its seats as it reacts to decreased demand for air travel since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The schedule changes mean the daily number of inbound seats from Denver will increase from 426 on seven daily roundtrips to 468 seats on five daily roundtrips, a net increase of 42 inbound seats.

That gain in seats translates into 294 seats a week. Based on a 16-week winter airline season, that's an increase of 4,704 inbound seats from Denver.
