Steamboat Springs After months of work, Routt County has improved its Web site to the tune of about $5,000.
The county's Mo Valenta along with Studio 9 Design developed a new site that is easier to use for residents, has additional features and can be maintained by county officials, said Tom Sullivan, county manager.
"This Web site is a lot easier to get around in and do more searches," he said. "I think a lot of people will be pleasantly pleased."
Although significant changes have been made to the Web site, its URL is still the same http://co.routt.co.us.
The county looked at revamping its Web site after a number of departments requested access to the site to post information.
The county could not add additional features to the site, which had served the county for three years, and had to give it a new look.
"This is a substantial modernization of the Web site," Commissioner Doug Monger said. "This brings it up to date. We now have the main wheel in place. We can spin off this and add more features in the future."
New features to the Web site include pages for county employment opportunities, airport information and a county employee directory.
The site also entails its original content information from the assessor, clerk and treasurer departments and meeting minutes and agendas.
The problem the county had with the old Web site was maintaining information, Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak said.
"The old Web site was not easy to maintain," Stahoviak said. "But this site is user-friendly and easy to maintain. It is critical to keep the information up to date."
To ensure information is current on the site, each department will be responsible for updating its information that is posted.
The county's site also features numerous links to other local Web sites.
The county plans to keep making improvements to the site in the upcoming year. Departments currently not on the site will be the first additions.
