Longtime Steamboat resident Dottie Van Horn passed away Oct. 31, 2001. Memorial services were held Nov. 2 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where her family and many friends celebrated her life. Father David Henderson officiated at the service.

Dottie had lived in the log cabin at Mad Creek Village since arriving in Steamboat in 1968, when she moved from Denver with her husband, Bob, and her children.

She was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Chicago, Ill.

She attended school there and worked at Marshall Field's prior to her marriage in 1946.

After she and Bob married, they moved to Denver, where Dottie was a homemaker and pre-school teacher.

Dottie was known at Gondola General for 15 years. She was known to many on the mountain for her hard work and cheerful nature.

After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, working at the Tread of Pioneers Museum and her family and church.

She had recently moved to the Mountain View Apartments to be closer to town.

She is survived by her children, Debbie and Kelsey Hogue of Grand Junction; Rob and Mimi Van Horn of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Paul and Cindy Van Horn of Steamboat.

She is also survived by grandchildren Jamie Rumsey and husband Ian of Broomfield; Kelsey Graham Hogue II of Boulder and Erik Van Horn of Steamboat. Bob preceded her in death in 1997 after 51 years of marriage.
