CHRISTMAS CUPBOARD PLANNED FOR SATURDAY
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSConcordia Lutheran's 18th annual Christmas Cupboard is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church on Maple Street and Amethyst Drive. The event features a bazaar with handcrafted items for the holidays and an assortment of specialty food items. It also features Cookie Caper select hand-decorated holiday cookies sold by the pound and a brunch served throughout the morning. Funds raised will benefit local organizations. NOVEL IDEAS SERIES CONTINUES WEDNESDAY
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS
The Alpine Enrichment Program presents the Novel Ideas Series for the third forum of book discussions. "The Violent Bear it Away," by Flannery O'Connor, will be facilitated by Kristin Weber, Colorado Mountain College's library guru, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Bryan King Room, 300 Bogue Hall at the Alpine Campus. Weber researched O'Connor's writing to complete her master's thesis, "A Jungian Study of Violence and Grace in the fiction of Flannery O'Connor." The thesis won Outstanding Thesis of the Year award from California State University this year. Refreshments will be available thanks to Cottonwood Grill. Books are on loan from the CMC library or Bud Werner Memorial Library and for sale at Off the Beaten Path Bookstore. Book discussions are free and open to the public. ARTS COUNCIL SEEKS WINTER WORKS ENTRIES
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Steamboat Springs Arts Council is accepting slide entries for Winter Works 2002, to be held Jan. 18 to Feb. 24 at the Depot Art Center in Steamboat. The theme for this exhibit is "Wordplay." Artists are asked to interpret the theme in any form, ranging from the literal to abstract. Winter Works 2002 is a juried exhibition, with cash awards given open to all media, except video and installations. Entry deadline is November 30, 2001. All work must be for sale. The SSAC will retain a 25-percent commission. The show will be judged by Susan Shatter.

EXHIBIT JUDGE TO HOST FIVE-DAY ART WORKSHOP
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSSusan Shatter, who will judge the Winter Works 2002 exhibit at the Depot, will be conducting a five-day workshop January 12 to 16 on experimental watercolor for intermediate and advanced painters of all mediums. Cost of workshop is $500, including lunch for 5 days. Non-refundable 50 percent deposit required by December 15. Participants must provide all supplies.
