John Burin

John Burin passed away Oct. 26, 2001, at the extended care center in Steamboat Springs.
John was born Dec. 28, 1914, near Imperial, Pa. He was the seventh child of Mike and Teresa Burin.
As a young man, he worked in the coal mines near Pittsburgh, Pa. and in the mid 1930s moved to Detroit, Mich. There he worked for Detroit Tank Arsenal before joining the Army. John married Ilene DeRose in 1943 before being shipped overseas.
After his discharge from the army, he worked for Divco Trucks in Detroit from 1945 until 1967 when Divco Trucks went out of business. Until his retirement in 1978, John worked for South Lake schools.
Following the death of his wife in 1992, John moved to Steamboat Springs to be near his two sons and their families.
In the last few years, he could be seen riding his motorized scooter anywhere in Steamboat that had sidewalks. He especially enjoyed the company of his friends at the Mountain View senior apartments where he lived.
John is survived by John and Karen Burin of Steamboat, Bill and Colleen Burin of Phippsburg; his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Mark Burin of Steamboat and Elizabeth Burin of Phippsburg; a sister, Theresa Burin of Vista, Calif. and a brother Charles Burin and wife Ruth of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held Oct. 29, 2001, at Peterson Funeral Home in Steamboat. Rev. Bill Cox, First Baptist Church of Yampa officiated. Organist was Yvonne Baker. Interment was at the Yampa Cemetery.
