Taste of South Routt seeks help
Food festival could be more palatable for children
Tuesday, May 29, 2001
Oak Creek Parents who go to south Routt County's only food festival at the end of June could have more options to keep their children busy.
This year Taste of South Routt event organizer David Bonfiglio is looking at providing an area where children can play in the water and a booth to pet miniature horses or go on buggy ride pulled by the animals.
"The big kids the adults are fine sitting around," Bonfiglio said. "But the younger kids kind of need to have something to do."
The tentative plan is to get a fire truck parked at one end of Decker Park in Oak Creek to spray water on the children.
"Nothing is for sure, yet," he said.
Local folk musician and songwriter Dave Moran is the entertainment for the festival, performing from 4 to 8 p.m. He also will cater to a younger crowd, dedicating one of his sets to playing songs for the children, Bonfiglio said.
Another new addition to the Taste of South Routt which will entertain the adult crowd is a vintage car show. The plan is to get about 13 vintage autos from the '30s and '40s through a car club in Denver and park them on the lawn of the park.
"It will be something for people to take a gander at," Bonfiglio said.
Other tentative plans that would be new for the event is a horseshoe tournament and a volleyball tournament.
"We're just trying to work on getting some other game-type things," Bonfiglio said.
One thing that is not new is the need for volunteers. People can be used to help with planning, set up and tear-down.
