Frances Helen Schaefermeyer of Wasco passed away May 20, 2001, in Bakersfield, Calif. She was 89.

She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Rifle to Elbert and Madge Hilton and was educated there. She married Clarence Schaefermeyer Aug. 31, 1930. He preceded her in death Oct. 26, 1966. They lived in Steamboat Springs. While in Steamboat Springs, she owned the Fran-De-Clair Beauty Shop from 1956 to 1966. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz. for 10 years, and then to Wasco for 10 years. She loved fishing in the Rocky Mountains, especially at Beaver Dam.

She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved family activities including cross-country skiing. She loved nature and the outdoors.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs and Wasco. She was a Rebecka affiliated with International Order of Odd Fellows and served as Noble Grand. She was also a member of Ladies Recreation Club in Steamboat Springs.

She is survived by a daughter, Deanna Effertz and husband Gil of Frazier Park,Calif.; son-in-law, John McDowell of Wasco; four grandchildren, Mark McDowell and his wife Audrey of Bakersfield, Bruce McDowell of Bakersfield, Janice and Rod Perekrestenko of Greeley and Melissa Payne and husband Dean of Konawa, Okla.

She is preceded in death by two daughters, Clair McDowell April 14, 1999 and Bunny Rae Schaefermeyer May 13, 1940; three brothers, Wilbert Dan Hilton is 1925, George Oliver Hilton is 1941 and William Bird Hilton is 1955; and one grandson, John Steven McDowell in 1964.

A funeral service was at 10 a.m. May 24 at the Wasco United Methodist Church. Arrangement were made by Peters Funeral Home of Wasco.

Memorial donation in Frances' name can be made to the American Heart Association.
