A 'FANTASTICK' SUMMER OFFERING

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Steamboat Community Players presents Summer Theatre Festival auditions for the classical musical tale, "The Fantasticks," plus an original piece written by the cast and directed by Matt Murphy. Auditions will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. May 20 and from 6 to 9 p.m. May 21 at the Seventh Street Playhouse.

Males and females of all ages, shapes, sizes and levels of experience are welcome. Auditioners should bring a monologue and 16 bars of a song to perform. Those who don't have one, will be provided one by the management.

The Summer Theatre Festival performances begin July 13 and run to Aug. 4. Call 846-4516 for more information.

LEARN THE BENEFITS OF COMPOSTING

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Environment 2000 Mini Series will continue with a workshop on composting from 9 a.m. to noon May 26 at Olympian Hall. Find out about the benefits of composting and what it provides soil and plants, the methods and how to get started. The workshop is free, but donations are welcome. SENIORS INVITED TO TOUR ELK RANCH

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSTake a guided tour, enjoy a picnic lunch and visit the Western Museum at the Wyman Elk Ranch June 5. Seniors 55 and older will meet at the Parks and Recreation offices at 9 a.m., arrive at the ranch about 10 a.m. and head back to Steamboat about 3:30 p.m. Cost is $15, which includes transportation, tour at the ranch and lunch.

Lou and Paula Wyman have run the elk preserve of more than 200 elk outside of Haydensince the 1960s.

2-DAY HOLIDAY CONCERT SCHEDULED

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSSteamboat will play host to a two-day music festival in July. The "Independence Incident" schedule will include performances by Israel Vibration and The Roots Radics Band, Blues Traveler and headliner String Cheese Incident on July 3. On July 4 the line-up will include the Charlie Hunter Quartet, Ben Harper solo and String Cheese Incident.

Tickets are on sale at All That Jazz and Mt. Werner Total and by calling Ticketmaster at 303-830-TIXS.

A one-day ticket is $35, a two-day ticket is $60, plus applicable service charges. Three day camping will be provided in the Tennis Meadows for $40, not including admission to the shows. Concert-goers must have wristbands to enter campground, free water and port-a-lets will be provided. Campground opens at noon July 2 and will close at noon July 5. Gates open at 12:30 p.m., show begins at 2 p.m. Note: no animals, alcohol, cans, coolers or bottles allowed in festival site.
