Sports group gives donation to SSHS

Triple Crown Sports recently donated $1,000 in baseball equipment to the Steamboat Springs High School baseball team. Triple Crown spokesman Bill Piltcher said the organization likes to make donations to local youth teams in their championship cities. That would be Steamboat Springs and St. Augustine, Fla.

This year the high school baseball team received new catcher's equipment, new bats, new balls and new hanging equipment bags.

They were also given some new batting helmets and an L-screen to help at practices.

Gymkhana group to meet Tuesday

The Steamboat Springs Gymkhana Club will hold an organizational meeting Tuesday at Northern Rockies Mortgage Co., located at 35 Fifth St. in Steamboat Springs.

Series director Bonny McGeary said the meeting is for anyone interested in taking part in this year's gymkhana series which is expected to start June 5. The series, will take place at 7 p.m. every Tuesday night this summer at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena. Registration will open at 5 p.m.

Last year more than 30 riders took part in the event, which features competition for children and adults in barrel, poles, flags and stake race.

Children under 15 years of age will be competing for ribbons and prizes. Those over 15 years of age will be able to compete in a weekly jackpot event. For more information, contact McGeary at 879-0007.

Colorado bike tour to visit Palisade

The seventh annual PBS Bicycle Tour of Colorado will spend a rest day among the orchards and wineries of Palisade. The tour is a pledge ride for the Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting System, and includes 1,200 to 1,500 participants, support staff and families from around the United States.

The 466-mile tour will begin July 22 from Salida and will include a ride over the Grand Mesa into Palisade.

Cyclists can spend their day in Palisade touring the area's wineries and fruit orchards, Colorado National Monument and the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range.
